Diagnostic Musculoskeletal (MSK) Ultrasound Imaging

Think... ultrasound imaging assessment for muscle, tendon, ligament, nerve and joint injuries - by the experts

Waterside Physiotherapy's clinical Director Robert Laus is a pioneer in diagnostic MSK ultrasound imaging in Sports Medicine

What is diagnostic musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasound imaging?

A detailed assessment and diagnosis is essential after an injury and forms the basis for successful treatment. Musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasound imaging visualises tissue changes including all degrees of tears, strains, inflammation and joint swelling. We have integrated this imaging within our clinic, so we can assess tissue healing at any stage of recovery, whenever indicated.

Combining the imaging directly with the clinical assessment provides a highly detailed diagnosis and this is reviewed throughout treatment to evaluate progress. It is the only imaging that can visualise tissues during movement.

Sound waves with a frequency 4-18 MHz are used to form an image of the tissues in the same way as with foetal scans.

Which injuries should be scanned with ultrasound imaging?

Most tendons, muscles, ligaments, bones, joints and peripheral nerves can be dynamically assessed to visualise tissue changes, trauma, inflammation and the stages of healing.
